D.P. Bhosale College, Koregaon is an educational institute imparting education in rural area in jurisdiction of Shivaji University, Kolhapur. This institute is run by Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara which renders quality education to poor and downtrodden masses. This college is established in 1968 with Arts, Science and Commerce faculties in the initial stage and later on with B.C.A. Apart from the regular courses, this institute has also the facility of distance education of Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
It also runs a centre of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Nashik. It is developed getting the UGC recognition of 2f and 12b. This college basically provides education to rural and backward socio economic students. It also facilitates to the students who want to make their career in Sports and Military Services. As this Koregaon tahsil has recruitment in military and para-military services, this institute runs the Pre-recruitment centre to give an opportunity to the college students.This college was established by Vidya Prasarak Mandal, Koregaon in June 1968. The inspiration for inception of this college came from Hon. Y.B. Chavan former, Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Deputy Prime Minister of India, Hon. Dadasaheb Jagtap and Hon., Dhondoji Patloji Bhosale. The college is renamed after D.P. Bhosale who was generous and donated a large amount of money for the all the students. For further development this college was handed over to Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara.
In last few years, this college has grown up with various new academic courses including post-graduation. The college has strong infrastructure like academic wing, science wing, library building, indoor sports complex, ladies hostel, support service building, cafeteria/canteen and spacious play ground with standard 400 m running track. The college has very good tradition of organization of zonal and inter-zonal sports competitions and university level events.
About Parent Institute
Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil was born on 22 September, 1887 at Kumbhoj, in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra. His native place is Aitawade Budruk., Dist. Sangli. He under stood the root cause of social evils and therefore laid the foundation of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha’s Satara in 1919. He started a Boarding House at Kale (Tal-Karad, Dist.-Satara) He spread the education to the doors of poor and downtrodden people. According to him education can bring Social, Economic and Cultural emancipation. For such upliftment he has sacrificed all his personal and family pleasures.
The college is named after Late Hon. Dhondisheth Patloji Bhosale, who was a wrestler and industrialist but had a great concern for education. He was well aware of the fact that education can change the social and economic condition of the poor people. Therefore he supported the grate mission of Karmaveer through donation.
Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara is one of the foremost institutes in Asia, imparting education to down trodden and needy people. This institution has a motto ‘Education through self-help’. The most remarkable feature of this sanstha is ‘Earn and Learn Scheme’. At present, Sanstha runs 42 colleges, 438 secondary schools, 8 training colleges, 42 primary schools (English medium 20), 31 pre-primary schools (English medium -18), 80 cosmopolitan hostels, 07 administrative officers, 08 Ashramshalas and 57 ancillary branches. It has spread in 15 districts of Maharashtra State and one district of Karnataka with 14627 (Female-3717) employees belonging to 170 casts and communities and 3,54,165 students (female 2,11,474).
